The Sierra Leone Canoe Federation has confirmed that its inaugural National Canoe Championship events will be hosted at the Sea Coach Express, Aberdeen.
The battle for the country’s first national glory will commence on 27 April 2026 with 16 communities ready to compete for the National Championships.
President of the Federation, Abdul Karim Koroma said they are excited to host the first national championships as the official body recognised by the international federation and the African Confederation.
He said: “This is going to be a historic event for the Association and Sierra Leone and we can’t wait to see the talent performing their best.”
Koroma further revealed that he is working relentlessly to ensure the sport becomes one of the most popular in the country.
Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Canoe Federation, Donald Kalokoh said 16 coastal communities; Tombo, Bureh, Mama Beach, Sucess, Lumley, Aberdeen, Tokeh will all compete for respective prizes.
He further revealed that athletes will compete in the Canoe Sprint, including the single-man 200m sprint, two-man sprint 200m, five-man sprint 200m, and 10-man Dragon sprint.
President of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone, Sahr Morris Jr. applauded the Association for such a move adding that SWASAL will give it full support
