His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, Vice Patron of Commonwealth Sport, joined Glasgow 2026 staff and volunteers during a visit to the newly opened Uniform and Accreditation Centre (UAC), marking another milestone in preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
During the visit, the Duke took part in the same process that all Games-time personnel will experience by collecting his own official Games-time uniform. He also met with staff and volunteers, gaining first-hand insight into the preparations being undertaken ahead of the multi-sport event.
With anticipation continuing to build, Glasgow is entering the final phase of readiness as it prepares to welcome thousands of athletes, officials and spectators from across the Commonwealth. Staff and volunteers have now begun collecting their uniforms at the UAC, situated on the campus of Glasgow Caledonian University, as part of their final training and accreditation process.
The Duke spent time interacting with members of the Games workforce, recognising the vital contribution volunteers and staff will make in ensuring the successful delivery of the Games.
Earlier this year, Glasgow 2026 officially named its volunteers the “Legends”, a tribute to the city’s renowned warmth, friendliness and community spirit. Reflecting that identity, volunteers will be easily recognisable throughout the Games in their distinctive bright pink uniforms.
With the countdown to Glasgow 2026 well underway, organisers say preparations are progressing smoothly and are encouraging fans to secure their places at the Games, with the final release of tickets now available.
